Road tripping

I'm having the time of my life right now promoting my book. The sky is the limit in terms of thinking up ideas on how to do this successfully. I have book signings, travel talks, and a launch party in the works. I'm looking at buying tabletop displays, banners and postcards. I'm all over this on the Social Media Networks.

It certainly takes an open mind to embark on a project that seems overwhelming at first, not to mention never-ending. But I learned a long time ago--especially during the final few weeks of writing this book, when more tears than words spilled onto the page--to take big projects one little bit at a time. If you can do that, it makes a gargantuan task seem so much smaller, thus do-able.

Along that same line of thought, I'm hoping to get together with a few other Arizona guidebook authors to promote our books as a package. A gift basket, perhaps? A group signing? Share a table at a book festival? I'm not sure yet--maybe all of the above--but these are some ideas I'm hoping to discuss more seriously with the writers very soon.

We met last week and touched on these thoughts during that meeting. Now that I've had time to consider this more fully, I think whatever we do together could be a very worthwhile project for all of us. As you may already know, I'm all about working together for the good of all. That's why I'm road tripping--getting excited about the path ahead. It's been a great ride; it's only going to get better!

So tell me, what are you "tripping" on these days?

Well, you know what I'm tripping on - a new book proposal and trying to scare (pun intended for the month) up new clients. Physically, we're tripping on a press trip this weekend to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Looking forward to getting away for a night.
I'm so happy for you, Jackie. Your energy for your project is contagious!

Thanks, Kerri. What's in Eureka Springs? Hot springs, is my guess. And if I can give you the energy virus, I consider that a good thing! I've not forgotten to send you my proposal. I'll see if I can open that file today.

There are springs there, I think. Today, it is a quaint little arts and crafts community. We haven't been there in about 15 years, but since I specialize in this area for travel writing, I figured I better get there. I hope it does re-energize me!

Good luck with your book promotion!

enjoying hearing about your promotion plans. I hope you're going to contact people and organizations in adjacent states, too. you know they'd be interested.

one thing I'm looking forward to, 2010 Songwriter's Market book out the end of this month, in which I have three articles --one on how to get the most out of workshops and two interviews with artists I really respect. good deal all around.

Kerry,

That's interesting that you have articles in the Songwriter's Market book. I haven't bought those books in years. I'll have to take a look when they are released. Please remind me of this. Sounds like some interesting articles to read.

I'm definitely planning on contacting regional markets in other states--all the four corners, of course. I'm still collecting market info. So much to do!

Jackie,
I know loads of Texans come to New Mexico. I'll bet some of them like Arizona too -- or could be intrigued.

first time I've written for the Writer's Market/Songwriter's Market folk, went well. interested to see what comes of it, for me and for the artists I wrote about.
