I remember 911

That's pretty much all I want to say about it, as the hype just depresses me. But I do understand the importance of memorials, so if you'd like a place to post yours, feel free to express yourself here. I welcome your comments and read every one.

God bless us all.

Here's my remembrance post. I was there nine days before 9/11. It's hard to forget. Anne http://thewritingwellus.blogspot.com/2011/09/day-of-remembrance.html

As you said- it is important to have memorials- but I also understand your not wanting to be part of the hype. 9/11 certainly is a turning point in the history of not only the US but the world- tonight as I was watching some of the broadcasts (rebroadcasting) those eeiry scenes- I could not help but remember how very surreal it all seemed...when I saw it for the first time, sitting in my house in Ghana- half a world away!

It seems I was not able to avoid being a part of the hype after all. CNN ran a special last night and part of it involved retracing the steps of those who were mere footnotes in the 9/11 Commission Report. That was interesting. The stuff that depresses me is the reading of all those names! There are so many, and they do it every year, and I wonder if it goes too far. I'm not sure. I just wonder about that. If you experienced it directly, right there, you're going to have a very different perspective, and I can respect that, realizing some people may also not want to relive it while others will find comfort in doing so.

Indeed, it was so surreal. It still is. Even the footage makes you wonder if you're not just watching a horrible movie, as I thought on that day when I watched it all play out on the news. It changed us in ways I think we're still trying to understand. I just can't help but feel very sad about the whole event and what's happened since. So I'd hoped to get through it without paying too much attention to it. I decided that is impossible. The impact, I suspect, makes it impossible.
